The Opportunity

Use your organization and communications skills to make a difference for Wisconsin researchers, innovators, and entrepreneurs. At WiSys, we help bring innovations from universities to the marketplace through research development support, intellectual property protection, and grant programs.

 

This role will help provide capacity-building activities designed to assist faculty and staff throughout the UW system in their pursuit of external funding to support creative and innovative research and scholarship. Research development is a fast-growing profession with many lucrative job opportunities. Interns will learn about the profession while gaining experience in project management and working with scientists and scholars in various higher education departments. Experience gained from the internship will prepare students for positions in non-profit organizations, industry, and higher education.

 

WiSys is a small organization and offers you an opportunity to gain a wide range of experiences that can be aligned with your interests. Examples of main responsibilities include:

  • Assist with management and tracking of events and programs
  • Create database of faculty research profiles and interests
  • Funding agency research and distribution
  • Production of materials for internal and public presentation
  • Other tasks to support the staff as needed

 

Internship Details:

We are seeking a student to start in the summer and continue through the next academic year. The intern would be able to work up to 15 hours per week during the semester and up to 30 hours per week during the summer, between Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Hours are flexible to ensure the student’s education remains a top priority. The starting rate for this position is $13 per hour.

 

This position may be done remotely or from our offices located at 614 Walnut Street in Madison, Wisconsin.

 

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be a student majoring in the STEM disciplines, social sciences, and/or education and possess some of the following skills:

  • Familiarity with and interest in university research and grant writing
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Skilled in working both independently and in cooperation with others
  • Ability to organize, manage and prioritize multiple, competing tasks
  • Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
