WiSys helps researchers and innovators from the statewide 11 four-year comprehensive campuses identify innovative technologies and bring them to the marketplace. To achieve this, last year alone WiSys awarded over $600,000 in grant funds across the UW System. This led to 64 innovations disclosed to WiSys and 12 patents issued. The Opportunity

The WiSys Research Development Associate plays a key role in strategic planning of programs and programming to improve competitive research and other proposals for obtaining external funding. This position will partner and collaborate with faculty and staff at the University of Wisconsin – System Campuses, specifically UW-Eau Claire, UW-River Falls, UW-Stout, and UW-Superior. This position is responsible for advising faculty and staff on proposal concepts and providing comprehensive editorial review.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and deliver in-person and virtual research development seminars, workshops, and guidance materials to train faculty in grant writing
  • Review and analyze funding announcements
  • Provide comprehensive editorial review on proposals
  • Facilitate bringing teams of faculty investigators together to pursue multidisciplinary funding opportunities
  • Develop, promote and coordinate other activities in support of campus research development efforts
  • Work collaboratively with WiSys staff


We are seeking candidates with the proven ability to communicate and build rapport with university faculty, staff and students; knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of research development and of funding agencies; and strong presentation, training and facilitation skills. Experience in proposal development for a variety of federal and/or nonfederal agencies preferably in higher education institutions. A bachelor’s degree is required, while an advanced degree is preferred. This position is located in Madison, Wisconsin and requires periodic travel to the specified UW System campuses. We are open to flexible remote work arrangements.
