    WiSys Technology Foundation helps researchers and innovators from the statewide 11 four-year comprehensive campuses and 13 colleges in the University of Wisconsin – System and UW-Extension to identify innovative technologies and bring them to the marketplace. To achieve this, last year alone WiSys awarded over $600,000 in grant funds across the UW system. This led to 64 innovations disclosed to WiSys and 12 patents issued.     The Opportunity

    The Marketing and Communications Associate oversees all internal and external communications and marketing of the WiSys brand to bring the WiSys mission to life for all audiences with diverse outreach, communication and presentations. Working with the WiSys team, this position will be the main communications professional and have the opportunity to contribute creative communications and design to promote the WiSys brand.

     

    Key responsibilities include:

    • Designing posters, presentations, flyers, business cards and graphics to promote or explain WiSys people, programs, innovators, and campuses.
    • Manage the content of the WiSys website. Oversee WiSys social media feeds, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn to build a network of followers that will further promote WiSys stories and events.
    • Write, summarize and distribute news and features on research, programs and ideas across the UW System.
    • Assist with WiSys event planning, including on-campus events, WSTS, and WiSys flagship programs (Quickpitch, Prototype Hackathon, Innovation in Aging, Wisconsin Big Idea Tournament).
    • Create various printed and web publications including the WiSys Annual Report. Collect campus features and metrics to highlight in the report.
    • Create PowerPoint presentations, visual aids and electronic communications tools and support. Ensure effective library of presentations for WiSys staff and management.
    • Coordinate and design periodic mailings for campus, regional and media outlets. Create and maintain system and/or databases for press release distribution, invitations to WiSys events, as needed.
    • Search, scan and clip for news coverage for WiSys-related and WiSys member institution news and issues and distribute on a regular basis internally and externally through WiSys news briefs.
    • Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with campus, community staff, visitors and internal and external customers.

    Qualifications

    We are seeking candidates with the proven ability to design and develop content across many platforms, including print, online, video, and social media. Strong writing and knowledge of AP style is essential as well as demonstrated ability to manage websites and web-based communication vehicles. Ideal candidates will be able to work independently, proactively prioritize and solve problems effectively, and communicate well with a small team. Experience within scientific, research or technological organizations preferred. A bachelor’s degree in a journalism, marketing, public relations, English, communications, science communications or other related field, or equivalent experience, is required.
